About

Zachary "Zach" Alan Reaves, a 30-year-old from Oelwein, Iowa, passed away on January 2, 2020. He was born on March 12, 1989, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and later moved to Oelwein. Zachary was known for his love of baseball and his active involvement in his children's sports activities as a coach. He worked as a landscaper for StewartScape and participated in the Oelwein slow-pitch softball league.

Sadly, Zach's son, Ace Reaves, at just nine years old, also from Oelwein, Iowa, would later die in a tragic car accident on July 19, 2020. The accident occurred when his mother, Robyn Reaves, lost control of her vehicle near Jesup, Iowa. The car went into a ditch and hit a culvert. His six-year-old brother, Ryker Reaves, was also in the car and sustained injuries that required him to be airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Ace's mother, Robyn Reaves, was found to have methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system at the time of the crash. She was later charged with multiple offenses, including child endangerment resulting in death, homicide by vehicle under the influence, and child endangerment resulting in serious injury. Evidence from the vehicle's airbag control module showed that she was driving at a high speed and did not attempt to brake before the crash. Additionally, remnants of a joint were found in the vehicle, and she did not have insurance at the time of the accident.
